The Banting Research Foundation is proud to celebrate the appointment of Dr. Luka Milosevic, a distinguished Banting award laureate, as the new Co-director of the CenteR for Advancing Neurotechnological Innovation to Application (CRANIA). Known for his significant contributions at the nexus of biomedical engineering and human neurophysiology, Dr. Milosevic’s leadership role in CRANIA is anticipated to catalyze groundbreaking advancements in the field of neuromodulation.
Alongside Dr. Taufik Valiante, fellow Co-director of CRANIA, Dr. Milosevic will strive to expedite the transformation of neuromodulation research into pragmatic solutions enhancing brain health and functionality.
Dr. Milosevic replaces Dr. Milos R. Popovic, a co-founder of CRANIA, who was recently bestowed the title of Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. Expressing his confidence in Dr. Milosevic, Dr. Popovic stated, “Given his history working in the fields of biomedical signal processing, machine learning, and computational modelling techniques, he is the most logical successor and I look forward to cheering on CRANIA’s continued success.”
Dr. Milosevic’s esteemed academic journey includes a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Tübingen Institute for Neuromodulation and Neurotechnology in Germany. Currently, he is serving as a Scientist at the Krembil Research Institute, an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto Institute, and an Affiliate Scientist at the KITE Research Institute.
CRANIA, a one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary partnership between the Krembil Research Institute and KITE, harbors 54 scientists and operates the CRANIA NeuroModulation Institute (CNMI). This collective aims to create a vibrant ecosystem promoting collaboration between neuroscience and engineering experts.
With the Banting award-winning Dr. Milosevic leading the way, the Banting Research Foundation is optimistic about the revolutionary developments CRANIA will accomplish in neuromodulation, thereby improving brain health for all.
